Principal's Message

Nature has a funny way of making me eat my own words and thoughts. Not too long ago I put my snow shovel up on the wall declaring that it was no longer needed! Then Mother Nature decided I should put my conviction to the test and dumped a significant amount of snow on my driveway. As of me writing this letter I am holding out on shovelling that snow and am really hoping it will melt away because if any more snow does drop, I will have to take the snow shovel back down and dig my way out to the street!
Our annual SCC AGM is just around the corner on Tuesday, April 14th @ 7:00. There will be significant changes in that group going forward. Janet Sobchyshyn will be ending her tenure and stepping into SCC retirement at the AGM. I would like to thank her for the countless number of hours and dedication she has contributed over the years. I am sure I will see Janet walking her dogs, or more accurately, being pulled by one of her dogs down the street in the future as she has one exceptionally energetic fur baby. Thank you Janet for your years of work on the SCC. Janet is not the only one stepping down though. Dawn Binsfeld will also be leaving the SCC. Dawn has been in the role of president for the past number of years and her experience will be missed. Dawn stepped up to become the president a while back, even though she was not seeking the position. It was that willingness to do what needs to be done that kept our SCC sailing in calm waters and I thank her for that steady approach to leading the group. Combined, Janet and Dawn provided decades of experience, knowledge, and passion to our SCC and I wish them nothing but the best as they will surely be involved with many other community initiatives going forward. Hopefully there are some wonderful souls out in our community that would like to jump onto the SCC and help enhance the student experience here at the school.
Our gym has been very busy over the winter with various school and club volleyball teams. April is generally the final month of the club volleyball season unless teams are preparing for Nationals. The Watson Aces have been exceptional tenants in the gym, and I would like to give them a quick shout out. While they are not a school related team, they have many athletes from Watson on their teams, which of course, directly helps our school program and helped play a part in our senior girls team qualifying for the Provincial Championship stamping their spot as one of the top teams in the province. There is growing interest in our school for volleyball, so hopefully someone will be able to step up and provide a new group of girls the opportunity to do something they love. I know it is a lot of time and commitment, but providing our youth with a positive, healthy option like club volleyball will provide life lessons like, hard work, dedication, resilience, and being part of a team in a controlled manner. Those lessons will lead to a more well-rounded adult. I know the Watson Aces would like to have a 13U team next year but are looking for a coach. If you are interested please contact Shane Wakelam and let him know you would be willing to help.
Have a wonderful month of April, enjoy the Easter break, and hopefully everyone gets their fill of chocolate!
